Start seeds outdoors in late spring or early summer. Sprinkle seeds in humus-rich, moist, but well-drained soil that does not dry out in summer in a shady, cool area. Press them lightly into the soil and water with a spray bottle. Keep the soil moist. In the 1st year, only leaves appear and a year after flowers. If started indoors, sow seeds in a tray filled with potting soil in the late winter. Sprinkle a light covering of vermiculite over the seeds. Sprinkle with water lightly to keep it moist but not soggy. Keep temp. at 65-70A°F. When germinated, put the tray in a sunny window and keep the soil evenly moist.
